by KS STAFF on Mar.27, 2009, under KS NEWS

As expected, rapper T.I. was sentenced today to one year and a day for attempting to purchase machine guns and silencers in 2007.
The Grand Hustle front man pleaded guilty to the charges in May of last year and was allowed to spend the past months as a free man, as long as he participated in community service acitivities that included his hit reality series Road To Redemption.
Tip, whose real name is Clifford Harris, will also be required to pay a $100,000 fine as a part of his sentencing.
“Today, I would like to say thank you to some, and apologize to all,” the rapper told U.S. District Judge Charles Pannell Jr., who handed down the sentence. “Everything I learned was through trial and error. I’ve learned lessons in my life to put in my music so people won’t make the same mistakes as I.”
The judge retorted with the following statement:
“I think this has been a great experiment. I hope this experience can lead to other experiments so others won’t make the same mistake at all. I congratulate you.”
Harris faced a maximum of ten years in jail and a $250,000 fine on each count. While he has completed upwards of 1000 hours of community service, did over 250 community related appearances and participated in the Respect My Vote campaign, none of those gestures will be credited toward his hours once he is released.
T.I. has gone on record as saying he has no interest in being visited by friends and/or family while he is in prison and rather than go into protective custody, would prefer to do his time amongst the general population.
Upon his release, T.I. will be required to do three years probation.
