Bow Wow Tweets Farewell To Music Industry

Less than a week after Soulja Boy’s meltdown on Twitter, his homie Bow Wow is taking a similar route. Well, not so similar in the sense that he too is losing his marbles, but Bow Wow did reveal to the world via his cell phone that he has had enough of the fast life.
“Man I be gettn bored wit life. I wish I neva did and seen err thang so soon,” the 22 year old rapper disclosed yesterday. “I have nuffn to look forward 2. I’m down more than I am happy.”
It’s a shame that he feels that way, considering all the young, struggling, talented rappers that would love to have traded places with him. When you put his industry experience in perspective, it’s not much considering how true child prodigies such as Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, etc., evolved as professionals.
Now don’t get me wrong. I would never put Bow Wow or Soulja Boy in the same place as Mike or Stevie, but it just goes to show how spoiled industry kids are these days and does more to expose them for the talent they don’t have.
In Bow Wow’s case, it makes sense though. It’s not like he really had an audience to speak to anymore. He hasn’t really conquered the crowd his buddy Soulja Boy has and probably couldn’t if he wanted to. He was in a weird place where some were yearning for him to be grown and others simply wanted him to shut up. As an industry “child” there was a definite draw for a talent like his, but once he got a little hair on his chest it was like, “Who the fuck is he talking to?” Kids didn’t want him anymore and neither did adults.
In essence, he never evolved, never matured enough to overcome who he once was.
With seven albums to his credit, Bow Wow’s recent release, New Jack City II was met with less than celebratory reviews and he understandably severed ties with Columbia Records after a dismal promotional push.
So it seems, the only sensible thing to do was ‘Bow’ out…
Interestingly enough, Bow Wow appears to have a plan b after officially declaring himself a former rapper. “This my last album because for me, there’s no more that needs to be done on the music side. I’ve done everything,” the rapper said shortly after releasing NJC II. “I’ve done everything from … the scary thing is that I’m 22 years old. I’m young, I’m still a baby. On the music side, I’ve been doing this since five, 17 years of just non-stop music.”
Fittingly, the final two tweets he sent were: “In a dark place! Goodbye.”
