Does Kanye West Think He’s Bigger Than Music?
by PAPERBOI PIMPEN on Sep.14, 2009, under THE EARLY EFFECT
Unsurprisingly, the world is abuzz this morning over Kanye West’s antics last night and his outburst, this time, had nothing to do with Kanye West. In case you didn’t catch it, West interrupted 17-year-old Taylor Swift as she was awarded “Best Female Video” at MTVs Video Music Awards.
I’ve seen Kanye act a fool plenty times before and sadly, he turned me off once he started feeling himself. I think he’s an extremely talented dude and it’s a shame that he wants to believe he’s bigger than music… ’cause that’s what it came down to last night.
Ironically, this tantrum wasn’t as boisterous or dramatic as any of the ones he’d demonstrated before. It was calm and to the point. He went onstage – in the middle of Swift’s speech no less – grabbed the mic, told her he was happy for her, then calmly expressed himself.
“Taylor, I’m happy for you and I’m going to let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the greatest videos of all time!!”
Slightly before the boos commenced, he repeated himself, “Beyonce had one of the greatest videos of all time!!” which undoubtedly incited more jeers from the sellout NYC crowd. It was if he felt he was the voice of reason… the almighty music man… God even.
Sadly, Kanye West will lose more people because of this incident. Some in urban culture may choose to defend him, but they shouldn’t. What he did was completely inappropriate and he needs his ass whooped. What bites is the suburban demographic will almost certainly pull away from him.
See, it’s one thing when you make an ass out of yourself in front of your own people. But when you do it to a 17-year-old blonde country singer, it enhances the idiodacy of your actions.
Maybe he doesn’t care. Maybe he really thinks he’s the savior of music. Maybe he’s really missing his Mom. Maybe he lost his marbles. Maybe he has the ultimate confidence in his PR team, that they’ll fix the error of his ways – no matter how juvenile he is – and maybe, just maybe he was drunk.
In any scenario, he’s an embarrassment to hip hop culture and African Americans today. Shame on you dude.

On point! Shame on Kanye. Has no one recommended a therapist to this dude? He’s in pain and his celebrity is giving him the freedom to take it out on everybody. He needs help!

Kanye’s stunt last night was a premeditated act that MTV should have expected. I think dude just wanted to show out because he knew he hadn’t won any awards that night and he probably felt as if people would shrug it off as him just being him. I’ll give him a pass only because when he won an award and felt like he didn’t deserve it, he called up the group that he actually felt deserved the award. So he actually kind of did it to himself before. Plus it was an entertaining moment. We all know that he would never have done that to 50 Cent though.

Not really sure what to believe anymore in the world of showbiz….Kanye could have planned all of that as a way of catapulting Beyonce into and even bigger stage of superstardom for all we know. (At the expense of his own career? Who knows what’s going on behind the scenes…)
Or, Kanye could just be so full of himself that he feels he can say anything….lmao.
“I’m happy for you and I’m gonna LET you finish” lmao….
LET???!!? Who stepped down and told you to take the reigns?
All in all…it wasn’t in Hollywood, but it WAS entertainment.
(How bout that Lady Gaga!!!??? )
