Andre Young, known to the world as the legendary super producer Dr. Dre, filed a lawsuit yesterday claiming the new owners of Death Row Records – WideAwake Entertainment – released classic DR materials without his consent.

The suit maintains the Canadian based entertainment label failed to pay him due royalties for the Chronic, which were severed when he left the label in 1996.

“When it came to paying artist royalties and honoring limits on Dr. Dre recordings that could be released, the “new” Death Row Records, to quote our client, ‘forgot about Dre,’” Young’s attorney Howard King said in a statement. “This lawsuit will make sure they remember.”

The suit also insists Dre had no clause in his contract allowing for digital distribution of his music, which WIDEawake also assumed.

Dr. Dre and his lawyers are seeking monetary consolation in the amount of $75,000 for a variety of damages, including breach of contract, false advertising, trademark infringement and misappropriation of publicity.
