New SLAP | DPG | ‘Westside Rydin’

by PAPERBOI PIMPEN on Oct.23, 2009, under SLAP

20091022-DPGArguably two of the best to ever do it… when they were at the top of their game, the Snoop Dogg inspired Dogg Pound was more than a dynamic duo. They were a deadly duo… as in quick to kill off competitors.

As the Canadian crew attempts to reAwaken the glory days of Death Row by dipping into Suge’s hallowed vaults, Daz Dillinger and Kurupt Young Gotti fittingly opted to drop a new album and DVD of their own – That Was Then, This Is Now.

The album and DVD, of course, is based on their experience as members of the once unstoppable West Coast label spearheaded and ultimately run into the ground by Suge Knight.

This particular leak comes weeks before their new project release date (November) and suggests they remain the formidable duo they always were, despite the time away fulfilling other obligations.

Produced by Fredwreck, then murdered by Kurupt and Daz, DPG is back.

It’s always nice when old and new talents (no disrespect) collaborate, but even better when they’ve riffed over the years and form a mutual bond via music. In this particular instance you have Snoop Dogg of the original Death Row regime and Crooked I, of the one that never actually escaped its own injurious grip.

Fittingly, the track is titled “Guess Who’s Back” and “Uncle” Snoop secures the hook on a banger from Crook’s Mr. PigFace Weapon Waist.

WIDEawake, Death Row Trailer Claims Faulty Management Habits

by PAPERBOI PIMPEN on Sep.04, 2009, under VID E OZE

No matter how much evil Suge Knight did, the thought of Death Row being in the hands of another owner, is still unbelievable. Be that as it may, the powers that be at WIDEawake Entertainment are releasing a DVD (The Chronic Re-Lit?) that examines the organization as a whole.

In it, there are claims that less than 15% of the music recorded at the notorious West Coast label were released and suggests fans will want to hear the dated material.

Whether you’re on the fence or not, a ride down memory lane might be worth taking since it appears Dr. Dre won’t ever drop Detox. Peep this trailer to get your fix… or not.

Suge Knight Sends Goons To Rob Akon’s Producer

by KS STAFF on Mar.25, 2009, under KS NEWS, RUMORS

According to TMZ, a home invasion involving “Detail,” a producer for multi-platinum selling recording artist Akon, was orchestrated by former Death Row Records CEO Suge Knight. Walker claims a group of five men, Knight’s henchmen, broke into his home at 3:00 AM this morning with weapons drawn, demanding money they claimed was owed to Knight.

The men ultimately removed $170,000 worth of jewelry from Detail’s home, not even bothering to wake him from his sleep. (continue reading…)

Death Row Catalogue Up For Sale… Technically

by KS STAFF on Jan.05, 2009, under KS NEWS

The NY Daily News is reporting that a hefty amount of music from the hallowed Death Row catalogue is slated to be auctioned off on January 15th. According to Todd Nielsen, the Chapter 11 trustee of the Death Row estate, in which Suge Knight filed for in a bankruptcy suit in 2006, there are thousands of unreleased recordings in the collection.

“It could be a tough sale,” an unnamed source added. “Some people don’t want to go near the catalogue because they think Suge still believes it’s his.”

The previous asking price for the catalogue was a cool $25 million.
