Ras Kass Doesn’t Need Dr. Dre Or Your Stinkin’ Label

by PAPERBOI PIMPEN on Feb.03, 2010, under VID E OZE, WCW

raskassIt doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that Dr. Dre has been moving in another direction the past… nine years?

And for those that hadn’t gotten the message, Ras Kass keeps it all the way 100 (sure to be on the 2010 list of phrases that are played the fuck out) in the following interview with The SOURCE.

He offers any man who waits on Dre to save him is pretty much fooling himself. Kass also speaks on the importance of being independent in these crucial times where big record companies are nearly useless.

The only thing wrong with his first observation is the artists that are making noise in Southern California, save for Game, have their own movements (and he actually does too… sort of).

Neither Nipsey Hussle nor Jay Rock or even Glasses Malone, are signed to Dre and they all appear to be doing just fine.

The second observation is dead on, only Ras’ momentum is as strong as a dumptruck traveling uphill in neutral.

Aftermath Rep Says Bishop Lamont Was Released For Disloyalty

by KOPY KAT on Jan.11, 2010, under KS NEWS

aftermath-entertainmentAn official statement from a member of the Aftermath Records’ brass had this to say regarding Bishop Lamont’s split with the West Coast based label:

“Unlike Joel Ortiz or Stat Quo, Bishop Lamont was released from Aftermath due to disloyalty and the fact that he is an idiot. It started in early 2008 when he decided to name himself a spokesperson for Detox, Aftermath, & Dr. Dre. Let’s start with his Disloyalty.

Bishop’s Single “Grow Up” should have never happened period. The song “Grow Up” was originally intended for Marsha from Floetry and stolen by Bishop. Bishop layed vocals to what the public now knows as “Grow Up” and Dre never liked it. Dre never liked the fact that Bishop did a record he intended for Marsha and Dre thought the mix for the record was awful. Will Dre release a record that is just a loop, synthesizer, and vocals?? No, not after releasing classics like No One Can Do it Better, Chronic, DoggyStyle, Slim Shady LP, or Get Rich or Die Trying.

Bishop Lamont Confirms Release From Aftermath Records

by PAPERBOI PIMPEN on Jan.11, 2010, under KS NEWS

bishoplamontAfter a five year stint with Aftermath Records, West Coast rapper Bishop Lamont is now a free agent. Lamont went on air this weekend with The All Out Show with Rude Jude and Lord Sear on Shade 45 radio Saturday January 9th to break the news and seemed rather elated to do so.

Lamont drew parallels to Shawshank Redemption and offered that he was walking the yard every day, shaking gravel out of his pants… crawling through the sewers” and will now finally be able to realize his true star.

The split with Dre was an amicable one, as the LA lyricist walked away with over 700 mastered songs. Most importantly, he confirmed their relationship is intact.

“Dre is my big bro and that’s my family regardless,” he said. “I’ma support Aftermath and whatever he needs over there, it’s there. But after almost five years of just sittin’ there and working with every producer in the world, it’s kind of unfair to the fans and my family and myself.”

Lamont is currently shopping his debut album, The Reformation , and spoke to making rounds with numerous labels during his recent trip to NY.

He admitted that things got a little sketchy with Dre, but never bad enough to ruin their friendship. Bishop instead pointed to Interscope not striking while the iron was hot.

WCW | Dr. Dre | “Puffin’ On Blunts And Drankin’ Tanqueray”

by KS STAFF on Dec.02, 2009, under VID E OZE, WCW

death row gang

Fresh for West Coast Wednesdays!

This video comes courtesy of the new Death Row 3CD/DVD box set WideAwake Entertainment has been promoting for the past few months. Good to see this footage, but it would be better to know the most powerful West Coast label ever, was still intact.

In any scenario, it’s refreshing to know something like this is possible. The Lady of Rage sets it off. Daz takes the baton and Kurupt absolutely MURDERS it!

Andre Young Promotes Headphones, Dr. Dre Fields Detox Questions

by KS STAFF on Nov.22, 2009, under KS NEWS, VID E OZE

sdlkfwdlkfncwsldnvclksdncDr. Dre recently inked a deal with Best Buy to promote and sell his Beats By Dre headphones in select markets across the country and stopped in New York’s Union Square location to discuss his futuristic product with the public.

Unfortunately for him, people would care more about the BBD if they could bump a new Dr. Dre album on them and one curious reporter moved to inquire about the heavily anticipated project known to the public as Detox.

The legendary producer fielded the question, providing a short answer that has to have been calculated time and time again. Hopefully this new venture with Best Buy might increase the pressure to deliver a real release date.

“You know what, I’m workin’ hard on it man,” Dre disclosed. “I’m going and I’m stopping… I’m working on other artists in between and what have you. But, I”m working hard on it and the minute it’s done and I feel it right here (points to chest), when it feels right to me? That’s when it’ll come out. Hopefully in the beginning of the year.”
