Doin’ Work: So Fresh So Green @ Vessel (SF)

by Art Director on Mar.12, 2010, under WORK

FreshAndCleanIf you’ve been following us (here, not on Twitter), you know we’ve been playing around with this 3D effect for the past few months.

Our client likes it and while we never really thought of incorporating it into our work as often as we do now, it’s a good look. Don’t you think?

The more we play with it, the more we like it… and the more we like it, the better it will get.

As you can see, the party is next week, so if you are in the Bay, check it out and tell em the good people over @ KS sent you!

Doin’ Work: The Password Party @ Vessel (SF)

by Art Director on Mar.02, 2010, under WORK

PasswordMarch2010If you’ve ever been to San Francisco and not had the chance to attend a Password Party, you don’t know what you’re missing.

Since taking on this account, we’ve designed about four or five of these flyers and interestingly enough, each one has its own identity.

We’d done the key. We’d done the safe. We’d done the key and the safe. We’d done the key to the heart.. and so on.

So this time, I decided to do a merge some elements from some other parties (Password included) and work a little magic to come up with a fresh look for a fresh party! I started off with a gold & silver blend and per our client’s request, switched the color scheme up (red, then turquoise… and back to red).

Check it out by clicking the inset image or see the associated gallery!

Doin’ Work: REMIX @ Butterfly Ultra Lounge (SF)

by Art Director on Feb.26, 2010, under WORK

Remix2010When we did the original for this flyer there were no limitations and I had the autonomy to do what I do.

Naturally, I thought a magazine layout would be dope. I mean isn’t REMIX a fresh name for a magazine?

Hmm… might be on to something.

At any rate, Location 415 wanted a little twist on it this go round, so we put a little 3D effect on it and wallah!! Had to change out the colors, but we’re happy with the end result.

The party’s on the 6th in the heart of San Francisco. Get there if you’re out there.

Doin’ Work: Hearts 4 Haiti @ Vessel (San Francisco)

by Art Director on Feb.18, 2010, under WORK

fundraiser2This came in a couple of nights ago and as you can see (if you click the pic), the party/fundraiser is Monday.

So I decided to put a little twist on it and play off the Haitian flag (<– in the gallery at bottom of this post). I’m not the most sports inclined person in the world, so when the template came in I thought “Sam” meant “Uncle Sam.”

I was wondering why he needed to be on the flyer and when Ali walked in, he explained to me that the focus was supposed to be on “Samuel Dalembert.” Needless to say, I was embarrassed!

So I continued, changed out the images and Location 415 requested different pics of A.I. and the other A.I. (I learn fast!).

Doin’ Work: Good Fridays @ Club Django (Atlanta)

by Art Director on Feb.18, 2010, under WORK

GoodFridays2010webmedThe good people over at MAD Promo hit us up to tweak the design on GOOD FRIDAYS again and we came up with this concept.

Now I’ll admit, initially I didn’t like it. Ali got to talking about “Good Times” and how “Dynomite” JJs paintings were and I just didn’t see how it could come together.

There’s a painting that was featured on this ’70s sitcom and you want me to make a flyer from that? Are you serious dude?

But after doing a little research (and mounting pressure from Mr. Early), I learned that JJ was NOT the artist that crafted “Good Times” signature paintings. Ernie Barnes was.

The name of the piece that became synonymous with the show and JJ, is “Sugar Shack.” It was also used as cover art for Marvin Gaye’s album, I Want You.
