Sounds Of Progression Wrap Up #1
by PAPERBOI PIMPEN on Mar.03, 2010, under THE EARLY EFFECT
So I attended the first (monthly?) Sounds Of Progression round table discussion this Monday at the Warner Brothers office in Atlanta, Ga. Everyone seems to think Atlanta has a hold on the music industry right now so a few of my industry homies – Maurice Garland, Bem Joiner and Moses Davis – decided it’s time to make cents of the theory.
The idea was for us all to come together in an effort to discuss ways to promote each other and kreate some dialogue that might work to develop “change” and develop new revenue streams.
Why not right?
Barack Obama would be proud of us uniting in the spirit of unearthing a better tomorrow and it’s quite possible that many of us (them) found positives in the initial meeting.
For the most part, it was a great chat! However, in my honest opinion, there has to be more than formal discourse if we’re going to make any strides.
Update: Yung Berg Says He Has Vegas Receipts & A Pretty Face
by PAPERBOI PIMPEN on Feb.25, 2010, under THE EARLY EFFECT, VID E OZE
So maybe he wasn’t pistol whipped and robbed for $10k worth of jewelry. The sad thing is no one seems to care.
It’s almost as if people wanted Yung Berg to have had his ass whooped again. That they wanted him to lose once more. Lose his jewels, his pride and his dignity all over again. Maybe, just maybe, this time, he’ll learn the lesson.
Sadly, he didn’t and the reason why people want him to lose rests in the interview below with QDeezy.com. When he has an opportunity to play a situation down, he does the exact opposite.
It’s like Berg (people are going to start calling him Christian Ward soon) is excited to announce he didn’t get his ass beat (and maybe he should be after all the embarrassment he’s suffered in the last year) and he has receipts to prove it.
“I’m pretty! Tell em Q!” he blurts toward the end of the interview. “Let em focus on my face…”
What?
Lebron James Is Commercial Radio
by PAPERBOI PIMPEN on Feb.15, 2010, under GAME, THE EARLY EFFECT
So I was sitting on the couch the other day talking hoop and all with the homies and the subject of the Cleveland Cavaliers came up. “King James” they call him… but I can’t see myself doing it. The idea that the League (and society at large) would push someone to the point of Biblical proportions is insane and even taboo… imho.
So I deferred to this dynamic that helps me put the whole Lebron James brand in perspective and it’s called COMMERCIAL RADIO.
Most of us are consumed by it daily. It wakes us up in the morning, pounding every corner of our listening membrane with extreme monotony and redundancy.
Still, we listen.
PDs shove it down our collective throats 24/7 and because most of us are sheep, we swallow like the girls in Trey Songz video. Case in point, we allow our ears to be bombarded by songs we wouldn’t ordinarily listen to because??? Well, let the powers that be – the GMs, the jocks, the djs, etc. – tell it, there’s nothing else to listen to.
Happy King Day | “I Have A Dream Speech” (Video)
by PAPERBOI PIMPEN on Jan.18, 2010, under THE EARLY EFFECT, VID E OZE
47 years later there are finally signs that the “bad check” Dr. Martin Luther King referred to has been torn up and reissued in the form of peace, harmony and Barack Obama.
Still, it seems we aren’t all the way there as a people. We don’t seem to want to help each other like we would have back in the day.
Understandably, we live in the day of the hustler and everyone is out to get theirs. But that’s no way to build a nation.
The difference, I believe, is that once upon a time, we built ourselves up within a group. We helped each other and because of that unity, we were able to erect whole towns, whole communities, blocks and families that supported each other in more racially divided times than now.
The dream is still attainable, but we have to band together and go get it.
A wise man once told me, “Freedom ain’t free.”
Pacquiao And Mayweather Unable To Resolve Issues
by KS STAFF on Jan.07, 2010, under GAME, THE EARLY EFFECT
After meeting with a retired federal judge – Daniel Weinstein – for an insane 9 HOURS yesterday, Floyd “Money” Mayweather and Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao,” were unable to come to terms for the superfight the entire boxing world wants to see.
The back story is old hat by now. Mayweather wants both fighters to submit to Olympic style drug testing. Manny Pacquiao doesn’t feel the need to do so because he’s never had to before AND has never failed a drug test.
Most know the reason Money wanted Manny to submit to Olympic style testing, has to do with his camp’s suspicion that the Phillipine born fighter uses performance enhancing drugs.
Pacquio filed a defamation suit against Mayweather and his handlers to rebuke their claims and collect a few chippers in the process.
