THROWBACK THURSDAYS
OSJ | The Click | “Tired Of Being Stepped On”
by KS STAFF on Jun.25, 2009, under OLD SKOOL JEWEL, SLAP, THROWBACK THURSDAYS, VID E OZE
It’s Throwback Thursday and we found another Old Skool Jewel for you! If you’ve never heard this song, you should have, so scroll down and press play. If you’re already up on it, go head and get a little nostalgic with us!
Arguably their most politically sound track as a group, The Click – comprised of family members E-40, B-Legit, D-Shot and Suga T – came raw with this one.
“Tired Of Being Stepped On” represents the struggle candidly and appropriately for the man who just can’t seem to get things right. The battle tested soldier from the streets who no one will hire, his choices are limited and as a result, misery finds him in the form of prison, the block or death.
The ex-cons, the D- Boys, the unemployed, this track embodies the reality of overcoming the trials and tribulations that life serves up every so often.
Stay strong Black Man!
Man, my mother is disabled/ ain’t got no food on the table/ all I can afford is noodles with the generic label…
This goes on for about a week and a half/ I need to think fast/ I need some cash/ lemme water my grass and make it greener…
Aunt Viv Tell All Tale Takes Stabs At Will Smith
by KS STAFF on Jun.18, 2009, under KS NEWS, THROWBACK THURSDAYS
How’s this for Throwback Thursdays?
Former Fresh Prince mom Janet Hubert, AKA “O.G. Aunt Viv,” has a tell all book forthcoming and excerpts made their way to the Internet today. The book, entitled Perfection Is Not A Sitcom Mom, takes not so subtle digs at Will Smith, allowing he was a self-consumed actor who made it difficult for anyone else to shine, among other things.
Smith had people around him who made sure no one outshone him. I was happy to see Don Cheadle become the quality actor that he is, and often wondered how he made it past one episode, as Hilary’s boyfriend, being such a fierce actor. No one could be on ‘The Tonight Show,’ that first season, except Will. And I mean no one.”
She continues apparently, with another excerpt describing the “lovely and incredibly talented Countess Vaughn,” drilling the point home even further and allowing the young comedian was literally too good.
Oh my God! The day of table read, she was pee-in-your-pants funny. The writers were howling, we were howling, so I knew she was history – banished into the cornfield. Many years later, after she had her own show, I had to tell her when she asked me why. ‘Miss Janet why did I get cut from the episode,’ she asked? Simply, my darling, you were too good.
Hubert also addresses her infamous exit from the show, allowing the writers and powers that be wanted a lighter skinned woman. Other sources say she wanted an unreasonable amount of change, but who’s counting? It was… how many years ago?
OSJ | Boogie Down Productions | “My Philosophy”
by KS STAFF on Apr.16, 2009, under OLD SKOOL JEWEL, THROWBACK THURSDAYS, VID E OZE

This week’s Old Skool Jewel is dedicated to commemorating the loss of fallen Kings – talented individuals who never realized their full potential, but otherwise sketched a permanent memory of themselves in our hearts and minds.
Boogie Down Productions was indeed “Fresh for ‘88,” led by the charismatic teacher, KRS-One and incorporated the skills of D-Nice, Melody and their deceased comrade, DJ Scott La Rock.

Fat laces, kangols, jheri kurls and acid wash jeans – ya gotta love it! We was raw!!
It’s also dedicated to the soldiers who were strong enough to withstand the crack era and use the negative energy of drugs and violence to earn a decent living and inspire others.

Ahmad | “Back In The Day” | Classic Sh!t
by KS STAFF on Apr.02, 2009, under THROWBACK THURSDAYS, VID E OZE
This video/song is what happens when an artist plots a dope ass concept, has a beat to go with it (sampled or not) and delivers with three verses that actually make YOU imagine just what the hell he’s talking about. Who hears this song and doesn’t reminisce on the ’80s? Regardless of where you were from, you could relate.
Yeah, ‘Back In The Day’ when artists went platinum for actually delivering music with substance…
Shout out to Ahmad! Check him out at www.myspace.com/ahmad.
