The Scope: Mahem & Killa Tay | “You Don’t Wanna Know Killa”
by KS STAFF on Aug.25, 2010, under SLAP, VID E OZE, WCW
We’ve had our eye in PIIMP (Put It In My Pocket) for awhile now and the OGs, Mahem & Killa Tay are two main reasons why. Their affiliate Gorilla Gang, is a beast in and of itself and the hustle is unparalleled for an indie label.
Had to do a little searching, but below you’ll find a double video for “You Don’t Wanna Know Killa” and “Paper Politicin,” directed by Gorilla Gang’s Big Ju.
Not to slight Tay or anything. Dude is a well respected rapper in the Bay and all, but Mahem’s impact takes this song from ordinary to spectacular in a few bars. His energy on “You Don’t Wanna…” alters the track immediately and his wordplay on “Paper Politicin” is equally impressive.
New SLAP | Willie Joe | “Focus”
by KS STAFF on Aug.25, 2010, under SLAP, VID E OZE, WCW
Not like he ever had to prove it to us. We’ve been known Willie Joe was a monster, but that was a benefit of having seen his movement materialize in the flesh.
Since moving back to the Bay, the Fresh Prince of Vallejo has done much to reclaim his throne and his viral campaign is easily among the best on the ‘Net (we still love you Teairra Mari!)
This latest joint, “Focus,” puts it all in perspective. After working his way from a gig at the airport to emerging as one of the most talked about underground emcees in Altanta, Joe’s promising career seemed poised to take off. Two failed record deals later, he’s all but faced with starting all over again – this time on his native soil.
Video Leak: Ice Cube | “Drink The Kool Aid”
by KS STAFF on Aug.04, 2010, under VID E OZE, WCW
Got it! If you checked for the video earlier, it wasn’t here, but good ole WSHH got it up and we were obliged to share Cube’s latest offering – “Drink The Kool Aid.”
This visual is reminiscent of a cover (actually an entire issue) we did in 2006 and guess who was its subject?
Still trying to wrap our minds around what it means to “drink the kool aid…” Is it a bad thing? Maybe not, because Cube walks around with a big ass jar of it the whole video and an even bigger shirt with that infamous smile.
He doesn’t drink it tho… Not once, even in hot ass Los Angeles, does he fix his lips to take a sip.
So in hindsight, it must not be a good thing to indulge Kool Aid in Cube’s mind.
DAMN! We like Kool Aid!!
WCW | Glasses Malone | ‘I Get Doe’ (Video)
by KS STAFF on Jul.21, 2010, under VID E OZE, WCW
Glasses Malone gets money… so much of it he doesn’t have to look back when he has a bag full of open hundred dollar bills.
Even as it spills over onto the concrete, he continues on his mission, because he’s going to get more.
He shows out in front of the police as they chase him and the Cataracts through the hood, tossing doe outside the window of his SUV by the wad. Little kids and other less fortunate souls retrieve his random offerings, happy they went outside when their parents told them to.
He gets apprehended at the end of the spectacle, only to find cameras caught the whole thing on tape.
Needless to say, he walks away with a few stacks of “DOE” and is adulated by law enforcement, media and anyone else in the vicinity.
The Jacka & Lee Majors | “Play At Your Own Risk” (Video)
by KS STAFF on Jun.09, 2010, under VID E OZE, WCW
Jacka and Lee Majors go retro on their new track/video, proving the West Coast is as much a part of Hip Hop’s DNA as any other region of the country, including New York.
The irony of someone attempting to downplay the West’s love for the culture is comical to begin with. No, it wasn’t born in Oakland or Compton, but West Coast b-boys existed in the 80s just as much as their east coast counterparts.
Kangols, Gazelles, EK, Adidas and donkey ropes were a part of the every day just as much as the criminal activity that’s come to define an entire state, if not a region.
Kudos to the inventors of the Gobots for proving the West is deeper than guns, weed and cusswords.
