National Urban League Wants Obama To Address Black Issues

by KS STAFF on Mar.26, 2009, under KS NEWS

Although he’s already got his hands full with the steep sloping economy, the war in Iraq, and everything in between, President Barack Obama is now being asked to address issues specific to the black community.

According to the Associated Press, the National Urban League (NUL) recently released its annual “State of Black America” report, in which they ask Obama to specifically address disparities in black unemployment, foreclosures, education and health care. (continue reading…)

Sasha And Malia Face Challenges Too

by KS STAFF on Jan.22, 2009, under KS EXCLUSIVE

INNOCENCE INTERRUPTED
WORDS: N. ALI EARLY

Over the course of the next four years, Malia (10) and Sasha (7) Obama will open their own doors. As members of the prestigious Sidwell Friends School in Washington D.C., they will be walking examples of what it means to be African American – whether they like it or not. They’ll be exceptions and they’ll be spokespeople just the same. They’ll represent an entire race before they hit puberty fully and they’ll be just fine.

All things considered, one would think Malia and Sasha Obama will adjust in good time as their father settles in as the leader of the United States of America. They’re obviously the products of a good, wholesome, forward thinking family. Their mother is a devout supporter of the most powerful man in the country and they’ve watched their unflappable father repel the best the Republicans had to offer, without so much as a bead of sweat falling from his brow.

They’ll walk in normal and hopefully, they will stay the course as long as the people of America believe in Change. (continue reading…)

Dave Chappelle | The Day After Obama Wins

by PAPERBOI PIMPEN on Nov.10, 2008, under VID E OZE

Is this funny? Or does it take us somewhere we don’t necessarily want to be right now? The truth about Dave Chappelle is he’s a brilliant mind. One of those comedians that comes along once every tenth leap year. He’s spent a good amount of time away from the spotlight and for the most part, people either thought he was crazy, on drugs or burnt out.

To surface this way (the oldest post we found on youtube was two months ago, so we’re obviously late) is clearly him, but does it do anything to hinder our mission and/or standing as a people?

Lupe Fiasco Not Moved By Obama’s Speech

by PAPERBOI PIMPEN on Nov.07, 2008, under KS NEWS, VID E OZE

Eh… he says he’s going to catch flack, so here goes:

In the video below rapper Lupe Fiasco says Barack Obama’s acceptance speech didn’t move him one iota, but the image of Jesse Jackson weeping, or as he put it, “BALLING,” did…

First of all, it’s more likely those were more “tears of jealousy and envy” than they were “tears of affirmation” for the Civil Rights Movement, Martin & Malcolm. Either that or he’s regretting what he said. Did Lupe forget that Jesse Jackson, while in the studio preparing to do a live television interview in front of the world, denounced Barack Obama and spitefully grunted, “I want to cut his nuts off?”

The truth is, dude was probably crying because HE couldn’t get it done and Barack, who he claims “talks down to Black people,” did. If any celebrity’s emotions were “moving” and/or “inspiring,” it was Oprah’s. She’s been down for Barack since day 1 and has done more for Black people in two years - across the hemisphere - than Jesse Jackson has in the past two decades.

Dude’s a talker. Always has been and always will be.

At any rate, here’s the video.
