I haven’t had the opportunity to watch the BET Awards yet, but I hear it was spectacular – by BET standards…

I mean, it couldn’t have gotten much worse. Last year’s debacle is still stitched in my memory and very much part of the reason why I wasn’t exactly thrilled about thumbing through the DVR to find it and offer my professional opinion today.

What I did do though, at my wife’s request, is watch Chris Brown’s performance. I’m sure I was one of the umpteen million people who thought he should have been given an opportunity to strut his respective stuff in honor of the man who obviously helped shape him  as an artist – last year.

He, however, was denied and the show was a definitive, historical disaster.

On December 23 hitmaker and new jack swing pioneer, Teddy Riley, allegedly attacked his 18-year-old daughter Taja, and her older sister. He is accused of stomping and punching his daughters and threatening to kill them with guitar from the video game “Rock Band.”

Taja claims that the assault resulted in multiple injuries, including “bashes to temple, (and) contusion on face.”

A restraining order has been granted and Riley is ordered to stay at least 100 feet from Taja.

Riley is well known as an 80’s and 90’s hip-hop/r&b innovator, and is behind such hits as “Make It Last Forever” by Keith Sweat and “Remember the Time” by Michael Jackson. He was also the producer in his hit groups Guy and later Blackstreet.

If this is how he reacts when someone beats his high score, his daughters will probably never want to play video games with him again.

After going off on the industry for what was reported as an attempt to blackball his new album Grafitti, Chris Brown deleted his Twitter account today.

Brown began the day with a normal “hello” tweet, which had become his routine in the past few months, but has since said his goodbyes.

“I WANNA THANK MY FANS FOR ALL THE SUPPORT,” said Brown’s final tweet, posted Monday afternoon. “I LOVE YALL. GOODBYE!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Brown’s beef began when he walked into a Connecticut store and failed to see Graffiti on its shelves. When he approached the Manager to inquire as to whether the store was sold out, there were no answers. He inquired further as to Graffiti’s whereabouts in the stock room and there were apparently none.

Brown used his microblog member name “mechanicaldummy” to express his anger and frustration over the incident and news spread fast.

Sad to think we could have watched lil dude do this at the BET Awards days after MJs passing, but his performance was mysteriously cancelled at the last minute.

In any scenario, this is concert footage, meaning it’s grainy and a little distant. Brown appears to tire a little toward the end of the set, but remains on point.

In fact, there are instances during this tribute where CB all but becomes MJ.

This was all captured last night at the Los Angeles leg of his fan appreciation tour.

The adulation he had for the Pop King is obvious and worth seeing on the flatscreen in the comfort of the living room.

Stephen and Debra should be ashamed.
