by KS STAFF on Jul.14, 2009, under VID E OZE

The LA Leakers caught up with Murs and talked about America’s Most Complete Artist. It’s really weird to see a dude with a mop on his head talk about how much he loves a perm, but Murs confessed his love for Quik’s do and everything else that makes him superior to most.

New Slap | Quik & Kurupt Strategize “Blaqkout”

by KS STAFF on Apr.11, 2009, under KS NEWS, SLAP

In conjunction with Mad Science Music, Fontana and Universal, legendary producer/rapper DJ Quik and Kurupt will deliver a full length album entitled Blaqkout on June 9, 2009. The two West Coast legends have worked intermittently over the years and per Quik’s insistence, are now set to drop a West Coast bomb.

“Kurupt does in rap what I do in music,” DJ Quik says. “It just made sense. Kurupt is a gangster rapper in the sense of being raw, bare-bones and uncut. I wanted to do music that evoked certain feelings and could show his microphone superiority.”

The first single, “Hey Playa,” (Morroacan Blues – below), was inspired by an episode of “Bizarre Foods” with Andrew Zimmern, while “Do You Know,” Kurupt’s favorite, speaks to the Philafornia emcee on a more personal level.

“That’s my favorite record on the album because it’s the closest to where I am in my life right now,” Kurupt says. “It’s what I call grown folk music. It’s real mature and it’s the truth.”

In addition to Quik, who produces the majority of the album, Southern Cali newcomer Terrace Martin adds to the mix.
