Rasheeda & Nivea Twist Drake’s “Say Something”

by KS STAFF on Feb.15, 2010, under VID E OZE

rasheedaniveaRasheeda and Nivea put a spin on Drake’s “Say Something,” furnishing a female response that works well for both artists.

Wouldn’t exactly call it a “remix” or anything, like they did. For that to be truth, the artist who actually made the song has to be on it if we’re not mistaken…

That said, it’s fair and a good look for women distraught over torn relationships, same as Dreezy’s is for men.

And they both look GOOD!

Drake Tries To Clean Up 2pac Diss

by PAPERBOI PIMPEN on Oct.14, 2009, under KS NEWS, WCW

76c1ea81dadrake2.jpgTo his credit, Drake prefaces what many are calling a sneak diss by saying, “Don’t take this the wrong way but uh…” on the song “Fear.” Dude is smart enough to know that a cavalry of West Coast enthusiasts and hip hop fans in general would come after him for not respecting the career and legacy of one of the greatest to do it.

The line continues, “I never cried when ‘Pac died/but I probably will when Hov does/ and if my tears hold value, then I would drop one for every single thing he showed us/ And I’ll probably be standing in a puddle…”

Actually, if you take everything into account, it’s a direct diss. He blames his ignorance on his age and not knowing, but that’s a poor excuse. If he was 9 when 2pac died, which he says he was, he was old enough to process the fact that Pac and Jay Z weren’t exactly bowling partners.

“A lot of people also sort of don’t understand the meaning of that line,” Drake said. “It’s not necessarily that I don’t love West Coast hip-hop or that I don’t love ‘Pac now that I’m 22, but that line was just said to show how new I am to hip-hop. And like I said, I was 9 when that happened, so it didn’t really affect me.”

Mentioning both names in the same bar and having the gall to suggest the idea of ’shedding a tear’ for either man, is reason enough to suspect he’s heard some Pac along the way. Meanwhile, he moves to worship a guy Pac clearly didn’t like. There’s no reason to compare his allegiance, other than to take a potshot at someone who is no longer with us.

These muthaf*ckas need to learn some manners.

Lebron’s Documentary ‘More Than A Film’ | Stars Headline Soundtrack

by PAPERBOI PIMPEN on Sep.01, 2009, under GAME, KS NEWS

The hype over Lebron James’ documentary More Than A Game has grown much like his celebrated arrival to the League in October of 2003 and has unsurprisingly heightened with the recent announcement of a soundtrack that will accompany the film. A portrayal of his life as a pseudo-celebrity high school basketball star, More Than A Game, also includes his teammates, coaches and other significant people who helped him become the man/player he is today.

In retrospect, his accomplishments since becoming the next best thing in the NBA (besides Kobe), have afforded him relationships with the likes of Jay Z, T.I., Drake and Lil Wayne, all of which are either featured or have solo tracks.

Below is a full list of artists (in no particular order) who were tapped to help bring Bron Bron’s project to life.

Drake- “Forever” ft Lil Wayne, Eminem and Kanye West
Mary J Blige – “Stronger”
Jay-Z- “History”
Soulja Boy – “I’m Ballin’”
T.I. – “King On Set” ft Young Dro
Ester Dean- “Drop It Low” ft Chris Brown
Rich Boy – “Top Of The World”
Ya Boy – “We Ready”
Hayes- “Go Hard”
Jared Evans -”Frozen” & Tank – “If You Dream” ft Tyrese, Toni Braxton, Jordin Sparks, Omarion, Faith Evans, JoJo, Charlie Wilson, Tamar Braxton and Steven Russell

New Slap | Drake X Nipsey Hussle | “Killer”

by KS STAFF on Aug.20, 2009, under SLAP

drake-1

Drake and Nipsey Hussle on the same track? Please believe it! When he visited the studio with the LA Leakers, Neighborhood Nip was asked who he was feelin’ at the time and Drake was about the first name out his mouth. Either this was already in the works or the Canadian born rapper took note and worked to make it happen. Either way, they kinda need each other and it’s great to see the type of collaboration where opposites balance each other out.

Conceptually, they’re both in a position to ‘kill’ the game, proving their worth on this deliberate ditty… over rich organ strings and a simple drum that allows either emcee flex his lyrical might, Drake and Hussle embody focus and determination. Say it ain’t so!

Enjoy!
