Drake’s Got Nicki Minaj’s Back, But Do We Care?
by KS STAFF on Jun.08, 2010, under KS NEWS, THE EARLY EFFECT
Drake sat down with MTV to discuss his label mate’s most recent beef with Lil Kim and had the nerve to express disappointment in her actions.
After acknowledging Kim is a “G” in the game, he goes on to basically call her weak, insinuating she’s ‘losing it,’ among other things.
He may think he’s the voice of reason, as will his adoring fans across the US and his native Canada, but we don’t buy that bullshit.
Here’s a dude that walked into a ready made situation, admonishing a LEGEND in the game and then suggesting she’s insecure?
Are you serious dude? Have you looked at Nicki Minaj lately and cross checked her photo galleries with the Notorious K.I.M.’s? (continue reading…)
B.O.B. | “Nothin’ On You” ft. Bruno (Video)
by PAPERBOI PIMPEN on Mar.09, 2010, under VID E OZE
With the release of The Adventures Of Bobby Ray on the horizon, the video for “Nothin’ On You” featuring Bruno, represents the dawn of a new day… or at least a new artist.
And that’s the beauty of B.O.B., if you will. As an artist from Atlanta he could have very easily fallen into the current code, but decided to stray from the norm. Instead, he dug into the memoirs of his artistic spirit and this came out…
A dose of nostalgia inspired by Atlanta rap royalty.
Do yourself a favor and try not to focus on the BGs… there are entirely too many.
TIME Mag Rates Raekwon’s BFCL 2 Best Rap Album Of ‘09
by PAPERBOI PIMPEN on Dec.10, 2009, under KS NEWS
Raekwon’s follow up to Built For Cuban Linx had already won over the streets and most casual music goers, but recently earned the right to claim the top spot by none other than TIME Magazine.
With it’s “Best of 2009″ issue set to hit stands, TIME bestowed the prestigious honor on the Wu Tang Clan member over any other rap album this year.
Having earned the respect of iTunes editors as one of their top picks and MTV, the honor would seem to be one of many to come. Even still, the NY native was gracious in acknowledging the occasion.
“My album is one that I give all the credit to the fans that supported it. They remind me constantly that to them, I’m the illest. Their constructive criticism allowed me to pay attention to my craft and the end result was this classic. I appreciate Time Magazine for recognizing my efforts and seeing the heart of a ghetto boy with a love for real music. Overall I embrace the support.
“Shout to the iTunes editors that counted me amongst their favorites and all the other Hip Hop sites all over the world that has declared this album to be the best. This is a great moment for my Ice H20 and EMI Family.”
MTVs Sway Gets A Chris Brown Sit Down (Clip)
by PAPERBOI PIMPEN on Nov.04, 2009, under VID E OZE
The irony in this whole Chrihanna episode is that the former couple is still so connected.
However much her camp says she doesn’t want him or can’t bear the thought of seeing him again, rumors surfaced that they were in the same hotel.
Her album artwork is released, his is leaked days later… and so on.
Now, as Rihanna prepares to sit down in front of the world on Friday to bash CB discuss her relationship gone bad, MTV appeals to an apologetic Brown.
This is but an appetizer of what will surely be in depth discourse between Sway and the VA vocalist the same day @ 6 PM.
Dr. Dre Wants More From Jay Z
by PAPERBOI PIMPEN on Oct.14, 2009, under KS NEWS, WCW
Study long, you study wrong… I know, I know. I may sound crazy to all of you devout Roc fans, but the truth is, I don’t really give a fuck. My issue with Dr. Dre’s “heavily anticipated-damn near never gonna come out” album Detox is, he seems to be going away from what made it a classic series in the first place.
The original Chronic was chock full of artists you’d never heard of, but by the time you finished listening to it, you were eagerly anticipating their albums too. RBX, The Lady of Rage, Dogg Pound, etc. it was perhaps the most explosive musical platform we’d ever absorbed… and it was all West Coast.
Now, granted, The Lady of Rage is from VA and Kurupt claimed Philly too, but they bought in. The Chronic is and will always be considered, a WEST COAST CLASSIC. Then, nine years later they did it all over again with 2001.
I suppose when you make the decision to DETOX, you do away with all that has made you what you are and I’m just not ready to see the product that Dr. Dre (and Death Row) built, dissipate into some commercialized, ‘we are the world’ rap collaboration.
This all stems from a brief interview Dre did with MTV where he asked the Brooklyn native to “come holla.” On paper it’s a good look I guess. Dre is the undisputed best at what he does and many consider Jay Z rap’s leading man. And that’s where it should stay. He’s already writing on the project. What true West Coast die hard wants to hear him on a Chronic record?
On top of that, Nas and R. Kelly are rumored to appear on the project. AND Lil Wayne, Drake and T.I. are supposed ghost writers.
Maybe I’m hating, but after all this time, I don’t wanna hear all that shit.
