Everyone talks about Jay Z and Raekwon, but there was another old school legend that dropped an album this year and it wasn’t too shabby. His name is Ice Cube and the material was dubbed Raw Footage.

He sits down with PP2G.TV and makes a distinction between it and Laugh Now… Cry Later, among other sociopolitical efforts during his career.

A little rollover from “West Coast Wednesdays…” Sorry we didn’t post much of anything (literally) yesterday, but the streets be callin’!!

KS Exclusive!! Ice Cube – Raw Footage Album Review

by PAPERBOI PIMPEN on Aug.20, 2008, under SLAP

Ice Cube/ Raw Footage/ Lench Mob Records

Once you figure out what a “Pyroclastic flow” is (a common and devastating result of volcanic eruptions per Wikepedia) it’s pretty clear where Ice Cube stands on this, his 9th album. Vengeance is a common theme throughout, as The Don Mega reminds the listening public that gangster rap is a product of the world (“Thank God”), rather than the other way around – hence the lead single “Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It.” (continue reading…)

02 I Got My Locs On f. Young Jeezy
03 Do Ya Thang
04 Hood Mentality
05 Here He Come f. Dough Boy
06 Why Me? f. Musiq Soulchild
07 Get Use To It f. WC & The Game
08 Jack N The Box
09 Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It
10 Thank God
11 Tomorrow

Cube is one of few old school rappers that can drop an album whenever he feels like it and it’s still relevant… AND, most importantly, people still want to hear it. I think the main reason is because he never left us. I wrote about this months ago, but the reality is that the game changed and Cube stayed the same. Never switched up.

This will likely be one of the most explosive releases of the year mainly because dude takes his craft seriously and he does it becaue he WANTS to. He doesn’t HAVE to and he doesn’t answer to a label head or confirm his content with any exec. It’s all him… RAW FOOTAGE.
