Trick Daddy Sets The Record Straight On Miami Rappers, Hip Hop

by KS STAFF on May.07, 2009, under KS NEWS

Trick Daddy | "Native Son" | 2006

Trick Daddy has never been known to hold his tongue and this spontaneous interview with Angela Yee is no exception. He calls in and goes off on Trina, Rick Ross and others, allowing that he raised them through rhyme and influence. At the height of his initial spill, Trick rips into hip hop culture.

“I have a problem with that word (hip hop),” he said. “What’s that mean? I have to follow trends? I have to start wearing tight shirts?”

Trick Daddy Reveals He Suffers From Lupus

by KS STAFF on Mar.24, 2009, under KS NEWS

Back in 2006 when we went to Miami to interview Trick for a cover story in GRIP , there was a haunting suspicion among people outside his immediate circle (us) that he suffered from some sort of skin ailment. I’d heard he didn’t normally come out in the daytime and when he did, he wore makeup to cover up skin patches on his face, hands and other exposed parts of his body.

Well, the Native Son (what I titled the story and ironically part of the handle of his forthcoming book) announced yesterday on the Rickey Smiley Morning show that he was diagnosed with Lupus.

“I went to the doctor, Dr. Betty Bellman, and we took all types of tests,” Trick told Ricky Smiley. “I was trying to get rid of Acid—for dry skin that black folks used to have. She did biopsies and all types of blood tests and told me I had the disease Lupus.”

Discoid Lupus, the type Trick was diagnosed with, causes an extremely sensitive reaction to direct sunlight, which does everything to explain why he was opposed to a photo shoot exclusively by the pool that day.

Now that things are under control, Trick confirms he will go harder than ever before, especially with the book – Magic City: Trials of a Native Son – and other projects on the horizon.

”MTV Books got my book coming out in stores this summer,” Trick Daddy announced. “They got me playing in a move with a lot of the gangsters from The Wire and a lot of other big, black films. It’s gonna start filming in the next two or three weeks.”

Trick Daddy Signs Book Deal with MTV/Pocket Books

by KS STAFF on Mar.13, 2009, under KS NEWS

Miami rap star Trick Daddy has signed a deal with MTV/Pocket Books to release his autobiography, officially titled Magic City: Trials Of A Native Son.

The new book will be penned with the help of award-winning journalist Peter Bailey, a former staff writer at The Miami Herald.

Magic City, which was acquired from Ayesha Pande at Collins Literary Agency, will focus on Trick’s rise from obscurity, as one of 27 children born into poverty in Miami’s infamous Liberty Square Housing Development.

The book details Trick Daddy’s story as a boy born to a father who was a pimp, as well as his drug-dealing brother who was eventually murdered.

Magic City explains Trick’s life on the streets of Miami before he discovered Hip-Hop and how he went on to achieve international fame as a rapper.
