Ras Kass Doesn’t Need Dr. Dre Or Your Stinkin’ Label

by PAPERBOI PIMPEN on Feb.03, 2010, under VID E OZE, WCW

raskassIt doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that Dr. Dre has been moving in another direction the past… nine years?

And for those that hadn’t gotten the message, Ras Kass keeps it all the way 100 (sure to be on the 2010 list of phrases that are played the fuck out) in the following interview with The SOURCE.

He offers any man who waits on Dre to save him is pretty much fooling himself. Kass also speaks on the importance of being independent in these crucial times where big record companies are nearly useless.

The only thing wrong with his first observation is the artists that are making noise in Southern California, save for Game, have their own movements (and he actually does too… sort of).

Neither Nipsey Hussle nor Jay Rock or even Glasses Malone, are signed to Dre and they all appear to be doing just fine.

The second observation is dead on, only Ras’ momentum is as strong as a dumptruck traveling uphill in neutral.

E-40 Camp Releases Statement Regarding Denver Shooting

by KS STAFF on Dec.30, 2008, under KS NEWS

E-40’s manager, Chaz Hayes, has released a statement regarding his role in a recent shooting following a performance at a Denver nightclub.

According to Hayes, “E-40 and his camp were uninvolved in the unfortunate incident at Club Vinyl in Denver on Dec. 27, 2008.”

“Neither E-40 nor anyone traveling with him was in the venue at the time. In fact, E-40 had concluded his performance and been back in the hotel room,” continued Hayes.

“During his time at the venue, and in fact during the trip to Denver as a whole, he encountered nothing but love and gave nothing but love back. E-40 had a crowd pleasing and peaceful show,” the statement read, with Hayes adding that while E-40 “certainly regrets that this incident took place,” he and anyone traveling with him are “unable to control the poor and tragic choices that other adults choose to make.”

As of now, one person is still in critical condition following the shooting, while the four others injured have been released after being treated for minor wounds.

KS Exclusive | E-40 | Still Breakin’ News

by KS STAFF on Dec.03, 2008, under KS EXCLUSIVE, SHYNE, WCW

STILL BREAKIN’ NEWS
Words: N. Ali Early

Fuck what you heard. E-40 is classic. He’s donkey ropes, black & red pumas and a Le Coq Sportif sweatsuit. Emmanuel Khan’s with the snakeskin rims, or better yet, 14k Gazelle’s, tinted to shield the sun, but inviting enough to lure the prissiest around the way girl. The boy got game. EA Sports, Nintendo Wii, Xbox? They’d be nothing without Intellivision, Coleco and yes, Atari 2600. Yeah, classic… that classic shit. That’s E-40.

But nostalgia would be nothing without the present. Without the ability to align outstanding parallels, memories would literally be nonexistent. That is the sole reason why E-40, The Ambassador of the Bay, continues to evolve. While the new booties attempt to work their way in on the ringtone rap circus that has attempted to overwhelm hip hop with mindless music and new age cooning, 40 H2O opts to repackage an already proven brand.

It’s the reason why, after an eventful night at the third annual Hip Hop Awards, he’s the center of attention at the Warner Brothers Suite in Midtown Atlanta’s W Hotel. For hours it seems fans, colleagues and fellow rappers, all anticipate his arrival. A steady stream of people, including WB execs, models and runners, come and go, then do it all over again. By 3:30 AM it feels like he just might skip the damn thing. The most obvious reason is… well, it’s damn near 4 AM. The other, is he’s reportedly blowed (that means upset) about his seating arrangements earlier that night. Considering only a year ago he was the official emcee for what was undoubtedly the breakout show of its three year existence, it makes perfect sense. A reliable source indicates that he’s so ‘upset’ he just might skip his own Landy Cognac sponsored suite and call it a night/morning.

But that ain’t 40. He just isn’t the type to let his public down. (continue reading…)
