Will Smith Finds A Co-Star For Uptown Saturday Night
by KS STAFF on Jan.06, 2010, under KS NEWS, VID E OZE
Will Smith and Denzel Washington are on both board for the remake of Uptown Saturday Night.
The original flick starred Bill Cosby and Sidney Poitier and its plot centers around two friends who lose a lottery ticket. They spend the majority of the film gallivanting about the streets to find it.
Smith’s Overbrook Entertainment bought the rights to remake the film over eight years ago. Negotiations stalled over the years as he considered either Martin Lawrence or Eddie Murphy as the other main character originally.
Do yourself a favor and watch the original before going to see the updated version if you haven’t already. It’s real classical type shit.

Aunt Viv Tell All Tale Takes Stabs At Will Smith

How’s this for Throwback Thursdays?
Former Fresh Prince mom Janet Hubert, AKA “O.G. Aunt Viv,” has a tell all book forthcoming and excerpts made their way to the Internet today. The book, entitled Perfection Is Not A Sitcom Mom, takes not so subtle digs at Will Smith, allowing he was a self-consumed actor who made it difficult for anyone else to shine, among other things.
Smith had people around him who made sure no one outshone him. I was happy to see Don Cheadle become the quality actor that he is, and often wondered how he made it past one episode, as Hilary’s boyfriend, being such a fierce actor. No one could be on ‘The Tonight Show,’ that first season, except Will. And I mean no one.”
She continues apparently, with another excerpt describing the “lovely and incredibly talented Countess Vaughn,” drilling the point home even further and allowing the young comedian was literally too good.
Oh my God! The day of table read, she was pee-in-your-pants funny. The writers were howling, we were howling, so I knew she was history – banished into the cornfield. Many years later, after she had her own show, I had to tell her when she asked me why. ‘Miss Janet why did I get cut from the episode,’ she asked? Simply, my darling, you were too good.
Hubert also addresses her infamous exit from the show, allowing the writers and powers that be wanted a lighter skinned woman. Other sources say she wanted an unreasonable amount of change, but who’s counting? It was… how many years ago?
